2003

Poultry Health Services was established by Dr. Tom Inglis in Edmonton, AB. His first lab space resided in the O.S. Longman provincial government building. From here Dr. Tom started building Poultry Health to what it is today!

In the early days of Poultry Health, Dr. Darko Mitevski visited Dr. Tom Inglis in Edmonton while still a master’s student at the University of Georgia. Following his completion of the Master of Avian Health and Medicine (MAHM) program, now a requirement for all PHS Veterinarians, Dr. Darko joined the PHS team.

2004

Due to impending renovations in the provincial government building, Dr. Tom moved the practice south to the provincial government building in Airdrie, AB. At this time, the PHS team was small, with only 5 employees by the end of 2005.

2005

Tom and Darko continued to build the company, providing veterinary services and building relationships in the industry. At this time, Tom and Darko still shared an office in the lab, speaking to the challenges of operating a young company. However, PHS moved to expand the business, opening the serology lab and hiring new lab technician, Julijana, to help with this expanded service (Julijana is still with us in the lab today!). Long-time employee Lorrie managed the PM room, opening cases, receiving and sending samples, and much more.

2006/2007

Autogenous FAdV vaccine became a reality, a milestone for PHS’s success in consulting. IBH was of increasing concern in Canadian broiler flocks; however, a vaccination program for IBH was subject to a lot of skepticism in the industry. With persistent efforts from Dr. Tom and vaccine companies, and discussions with Sofina Foods, an autogenous vaccine program was introduced to Sofina flocks (the first to receive the vaccine in Canada).

2007/2010

Our steady growth eventually led us out of the government building and into our own space, a shared building with Nutrition Partners. This move allowed PHS to create a designated office space outside of the diagnostic lab, allowing our clients to be able to visit our team in-house for the first time. Over the duration of a few years, our neighbourly relationship with Nutrition Partners quickly transformed into a partnership – forming Poultry Partners

2008

Root Systems was formed, consisting of a partnership between Dr. Tom Inglis, Lawrence Sparling (software design), and Tiffanee Scorer (project management & graphic design). As a result of this partnership, Pecking Order diagnostic lab management software was developed as a one-stop solution within the commercial poultry industry to track services and record lab results.

2009

After 5 years with PHS, Dr. Darko Mitevski became Dr. Tom Inglis’ partner! This same year, Tom and Darko hired a 3rd full-time veterinarian, Dr. Jenny Fricke. The team moved to the Veterinary Professional Centre which currently houses our state-of-the-art Level 2 lab, servicing the Canadian commercial poultry industry.

2013

Dr. Ben Schlegel joined the PHS team, replacing Dr. Jenny Fricke’s position as PHS’ 3rd full-time veterinarian. By this time, PHS now had 13 employees. Around this same time, we began developing our working relationship with the Institute for Applied Poultry Technologies.

2016/2017

PHS expands to include the Ag Innovation Place due to the growing administrative team and to allow more space for managing the autogenous vaccine program.

Dr. Ben Schlegel became the third partner in PHS, starting a new division of the company in Stratford, Ontario.

2017/2018

Poultry Health Services’ 4th full-time veterinarian joins the team! Dr. Luke Nickel joined the practice as an associate veterinarian, quickly becoming a partner in 2018 and launching the third division of PHS in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

2019

Joined XLVets Canada, a group of independently owned, progressive veterinary practices across Canada. With the mandate “By working together, we can achieve so much more”, this partnership has allowed PHS to collaborate with a larger group of leading veterinarians.
